For the first lesson, I tend to test students in a range of topics, for example if the students was taking GCSE’s I would help them through a GCSE paper and then make notes of their weaknesses. Then I would make lessons for those weaknesses where I explain how the topics work and get them to do practice questions on it. I will then revisit those topics in future weeks to truly cement their learning. Furthermore, if a students wants to bring me some content that they are struggling with at school, I will work through that with them and explain key concepts to them, as well as tips and tricks that I myself have used.

Over 2 years, I have tutored 4 different students, where I have seen major improvements not just to their maths, but their problem solving skills, as well as their learning abilities. They have been surprised at the test scores they were now achieving. For example, I tutored a GCSE students doing foundation maths, where he recently recieved a 5, the maximum mark you can achieve at foundation. He was struggling with a few topics that were holding him back, but after going through those topics and also teaching him exam techniques while doing past papers with him, he fixed the gaps in his knowledge and achieved a very great score.
