I am a qualified primary school teacher having retired 6 years ago. I like to teach small groups or 1:1 and teach maths and some English to ks2. I love working with children who struggle to understand mathematical concepts and use lots of different methods to help. I find practical methods of teaching are the most useful and children learn much more from this. As an online tutor I would be asking children to measure things in their home and find objects in their home to aid money addition multiplication division and subtraction, to be aid hair recognition and work on perimeter, area and volume. I would be using water to help with capacity and measuring ml litres and converting metric to gallons. I would also be using paper exercises to ensure that children see maths written down but everything would be relevant to every day living
