I check the topics and skills necessary for that competition and then transmit them during the lesson by solving problems in the lesson. For math Olympiad training, I like to focus on one competition at a time. I check the topics and skills necessary for that competition and then transmit them during the lesson by solving problems in the lesson. I have trained students for over ten years and some of them got medals in the IMO and other international competitions. This kind of training demands a lot of time and commitment.
For regular math lessons: I first check the topics and present them to the student with exercises and examples. Then I usually prepare a small quiz so that the students can try to show how much they learned.
