My lessons are friendly, supportive and centred around the individual student. I take time to understand each learner’s starting point, what they find challenging and what they would like to achieve, and use this to plan lessons that are relevant and engaging.
Lessons are interactive rather than simply working through worksheets. Depending on the student, we might use discussion, worked examples, short activities, games, visual resources, problem-solving and guided practice. I regularly check understanding throughout the lesson and adapt the pace or approach when needed.
I believe confidence is a huge part of learning. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, having a go and making mistakes without worrying about getting everything right first time.
As a qualified teacher, I have extensive experience working with children and young people with a wide range of abilities and learning needs, including SEND/ALN and neurodiverse learners. This has taught me the importance of being flexible and finding different ways to explain or approach something when a student is struggling.
For English and Maths tuition, lessons can be based around the student’s current schoolwork, particular gaps or areas of difficulty, or broader skills they would like to develop. I can also provide more general ongoing support to help students strengthen their understanding and build confidence over time.
Above all, I aim to create lessons where students feel supported, successful and able to make progress at a pace that works for them.
