Laura Eddey

I am a highly adaptable person and I enjoy using non-traditional techniques and methods that help people learn in their own way. I am especially passionate about helping students who are neurodivergent or who have learning needs that are excluded by more traditional approaches.

My teaching techniques depend on how the person likes to learn. We will have an initial conversation at the beginning of our time together to make sure I understand what the required learning goals are and any areas that ate problematic, causes of anxiety or concern, or of a particularly strong interest. This can include field work assistance and instruction within the UK.

I prefer to teach online, although if in-person tuition is going to help the student more or there are difficulties with online tutorials, I am happy to talk about in-person tuition. I am happy to design field method courses or assist with the students own ideas or requests.

I describe myself as a Quaternary geologist. My PhD was based heavily on field work and geological mapping, that was supplemented by Quaternary dating methods and GIS. I have a good knowledge of lab methodologies and have connections with some universities and private companies that could be useful if required.

I have over four years as a tutor with the Open University and over 15 years in teaching earth sciences at undergraduate level. I have taught field methods in the UK and abroad. I have field work experience in the UK, USA, Europe and Russia.
