Lessons are fully adapted to meet the needs of each learner, including those with SEND. Activities are differentiated, flexible, and designed to support a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and sensory needs to ensure every student feels confident, included, and creatively supported.
Here is a typical lesson structure (this is bespoke to each student):
Part 1: Creative Ice Breaker
Each art session begins with a fun, hands-on ice-breaker linked to the theme of the day. This could include quick sketching, colour-play, or mark-making exercises to help students feel relaxed, inspired, and ready to create.
Part 2: Artist & Topic Introduction
We introduce the lesson’s focus by exploring iconic artists, artworks, or movements for inspiration. Using visual prompts, demonstrations, and short multimedia clips, students discover new techniques, materials, and concepts before beginning their own work.
Part 3: Guided Artistic Exploration
Students move into a guided activity, tailored to their age, experience, and creative goals. This may include:
Demonstrations of techniques (brushwork, blending, mark-making, composition)
Interactive creative challenges
Learn-through-play activities using colour, shape, and texture
Reviewing artworks, images, or short videos to spark ideas
Discussions to develop visual language and creative thinking
Part 4: Independent or Supported Making
Students put their ideas into practice, creating their own artwork with either independent focus or 1:1 support when needed. Activities are structured to develop confidence, technique, and personal expression step by step.
Part 5: Reflection & Wrap-Up
We finish with a short reflection, sharing our favourite parts of the lesson, discussing what techniques worked well, and celebrating each student’s creative progress.
