My lessons are structured but relaxed, interactive and tailored to the individual student. I usually begin by checking understanding and identifying any areas the student would like to revisit before moving on to new content. I break more difficult topics into manageable sections, using clear explanations, examples, questioning and activities to check understanding as we go.

A key part of my tutoring is helping students apply their knowledge. We regularly work through exam-style questions together, unpack command words and mark schemes, plan responses and look at how answers can be improved to reach higher levels.

With over 20 years’ experience in education, including teaching Psychology and Sociology and working as a Head of Faculty, I have extensive experience supporting students with different abilities, confidence levels and learning needs. I adapt the pace and style of each lesson accordingly.

Students can expect plenty of opportunities to ask questions, practise independently and receive clear, constructive feedback. I also use a range of carefully prepared resources during sessions, including revision materials, practice questions, model answers and activities. Lessons can support students alongside their current school or college course, focus on areas they find particularly challenging, or provide more targeted preparation for upcoming assessments and examinations.

I understand that confidence can have a huge impact on progress, so I work hard to create an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable saying when they do not understand something. There is never any pressure to get everything right first time. We can revisit, practise and approach a topic in a different way whenever needed.

My aim is not simply to teach content, but to help students understand how to revise effectively, approach assessments confidently and become increasingly independent learners.
