My lessons vary from student to student. If the lesson is in person, I have a big whiteboard I use to teach the lesson (a similar format to being in school). This allows each topic to be explained and shown properly. If the lesson is online, I have a laptop which is touch screen. I use this to screen share with the student, and draw on the laptop, as if it is a whiteboard. This allows the students to see and understand properly, like they’re in person looking at a whiteboard.
I always start by asking students what topics they would like to cover. However, if they’re unsure, I start by testing them on the easier things, to make sure they’re solid, and then we start working through every single topic, for their level (if a student finds a topic easy and is able to do it, we move on, rather than wasting time). This enables all foundations to be covered and consolidated, and no topic to be missed out.
If students are happy with it, homework is set to make sure they remember what they have been taught. If they’re still struggling, we focus on the same topic until they no longer find it difficult. After a couple of topics have been taught, a mini test is set. This enables me to see if students have fully understood the topics and if they would be able to answer them in an exam format.
I always make sure the student/parent/carer are happy with how the lessons are, and lessons are planned based on how they prefer.
I have all the books required for each level-both revision guides and workbooks.
I have been private tutoring for around 3 years
