Maths:
My lessons follow a consistent and effective structure: we begin with a short recap to reinforce prior learning, followed by clear, step-by-step explanations and worked examples. Students then practise questions with guidance before moving to independent work, where I provide targeted feedback and address any misunderstandings in detail. Each session also includes exam-style questions to build confidence and familiarity with mark schemes. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, regularly incorporating past paper practice to improve timing, working out, and precision. During exam periods, this becomes a key focus, with increased exposure to full papers and more in-depth walkthroughs of challenging questions. I teach students of all abilities, whether they are aiming to build confidence or achieve top grades. My approach is patient, supportive, and completely non-judgemental; I take the time to ensure students fully understand each topic before moving on, helping them develop both confidence and independence in Maths.
English Language & Literature:
I offer structured and supportive tutoring for GCSE English Language and English Literature, tailored to each student’s level while consistently pushing them towards top grades. In the first session, I assess the student’s current ability in analysis and writing to identify key strengths and areas for improvement. My teaching focuses on developing clear, high-level analysis by breaking down texts through key words and using a structured what, how, why approach to build deeper interpretation. I model high-quality responses and work closely with students to construct essays together, helping them understand exactly what is required to reach the highest mark bands.
For English Language, lessons typically follow a structured approach of extract analysis, planning, and writing, with regular paragraph practice and full responses. For English Literature, I focus on past paper questions, guiding students through analysing, planning, and writing essays with precision and depth. Timed practice is gradually introduced to build confidence under exam conditions.
I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, including how to interpret questions effectively, structure responses, and meet mark scheme criteria. I also provide targeted support through one-off sessions for specific texts, essay writing, or exam preparation. I teach all abilities, but maintain high expectations for every student, encouraging them to aim for top grades regardless of their starting point. My approach is supportive and non-judgemental, ensuring students feel confident sharing ideas while developing strong analytical and writing skills.
