About me

Hi,

I was home-schooled, so I studied the entire Edexcel Maths (and Physics) curriculum from my bedroom, at both IGCSE and IAL level. I also passed the Further Maths qualifications.

My results were 9 for maths, 8 for further maths, 9 for biology, 9 for physics and 8 for chemistry at IGCSE level. My IAL results were A* (maths), A* (further maths), A* (physics) and A (french). So, I know how to g...

So, I know how to get the best grades, and I can help you do the same.

One of the keys for me was having an online tutor available at short notice to assist me quickly whenever I was struggling with something, or to help me get through lots of past papers fast without getting stuck.

If you struggle with ADHD, one-to-one sessions can be invaluable to help you maintain focus!

While I'm relatively new to tutoring, and trying to build up some regular students, I'm willing to offer some free and low-cost sessions. Why not give me a try? You have nothing to lose because I won't charge you a penny unless you feel you're getting value for money.

I'm currently taking a year out from my engineering degree studies (after two years), so I have lots of availability, and I can be free at short notice.

All the best,
Kyle

Hi,

When I was studying for my exams, I used tutors in two different ways:

1) When struggling to understand a topic or struggling to do homework, a tutor can help clarify the subject quickly, and avoid you getting frustrated.

2) As someone who struggles with ADHD, I found that concentrating on revision for long periods could be very difficult. I used tutors to help me maintain focus, so I could get through lots of past papers much more quickly and effectively.

For me personally, the second recourse to tutors was key for me. Familiarity with past papers is key to doing well in exams, and I couldn't have completed half the papers I did without using tutors as study buddies.

Obviously, not everyone can afford to pay 50-60 pounds an hour for revision help, but you don't necessarily need a hugely experienced tutor for revision. It's far more important that you find a tutor with recent experience of your curriculum (or a similar one). I often found that tutors struggled with certain questions because they weren't familiar with my course. Sometimes a tutor knew how to solve a particular problem, but not the way it was taught at GCSE or A-Level, and that led to further confusion.

Another tip to maximise the benefit from the time spent with a tutor is to prepare your session in advance. Send your tutor the exercises or past papers you would like to work on (in advance). Your tutor might have lots of students, and it might be difficult for them to identify your weaknesses and track your progress over time. So, why not take responsability for that yourself? You're paying for time with the tutor, so it's in your interest to make the most of that time.

For French (or any language), the key is also practice. Try to hear and see the language as much as possible. French movies, shows or podcasts can help. Even if you struggle to understand at first, that will improve overr time. Reading is also incredibly important. Seeing the words makes improves your spelling and vocabulary a lot.

Understanding and practicing the format of a language exam is important too. I speak French fluently, so my IGCSE and A-Level required virtually no study at all. However, I'm still glad I familiarised myself with the format before I went to sit the exam.

I hope this helps. All the best with your studies!
Kyle
