My lessons are structured, interactive, and tailored to each student’s unique pace and learning style. Rather than relying on passive listening or rote memorisation, I design every session to build deep conceptual understanding, active problem-solving skills, and independent confidence.
Typical Lesson Format:
For new students-
-Targeted Starter (5–10 mins): We begin with a quick review of prior topics or a low-stakes challenge to activate recall, identify misconceptions early, and warm up key numeracy skills.
-Interactive Concept Exploration (15–20 mins): I break down new or challenging topics into clear, intuitive steps. I frequently link abstract ideas to real-world applications—such as connecting percentages to business profits or ratio to practical design—making concepts tangible and engaging.
-Scaffolded Practice & Technique (20–25 mins): We transition from guided walk-throughs to independent problem-solving. For GCSE students, this is where we master multi-step exam questions, dissect mark schemes, and develop structured working methods that secure method marks.
-Review & Reflection (5 mins): We recap key takeaways, address any lingering questions, and set clear goals or practice tasks for the next session.
For continuing students-
I personalise every session to match each student's unique learning style as we progress. Lessons remain flexible, and I welcome student-led requests to ensure we focus on the specific topics, concepts, or homework questions where they need support most.
Lesson Dynamics & Teaching Style:
I maintain a calm, encouraging, and supportive environment where mistakes are treated as essential learning opportunities. Having tutored for years alongside formal secondary school placement experience, I adapt explanations dynamically in real time. If a particular explanation does not click, I seamlessly pivot to visual representations, alternative methods, or real-life analogies until the concept is crystal clear.
