I come from a country where English is our second language and lingua franca. All schools from pre-school to the universities teach with the English Language. Additionally, I have about five years relevant teaching experience in the areas of English Language, French and Social Studies. As a teacher, some of my skills include; communication, empathy, listening, patience, organization, preparation, and adaptability. In my classroom, I use a number of teaching methods including; learner-centered, interactive, project-based, inquiry-based, group work, and Montessori-based methods. I do not stick to only one method of teaching, rather I try to blend them as I deem fit based on the topic being treated or the mood in the classroom. In my classroom, one can find; high student engagement and involvement, clear rules and expectations set by both students and teacher, frequent and excellent assessments, minimal distractions, clear routines, varied approaches and teaching formats, easy access to resources, positive, safe and friendly atmosphere. I believe that I am a good teacher because; I am confident, a role model, I understand that every student is unique, and I am positive and fair minded.
In conclusion, I am a teacher ensures that my students are active and involved with what they are learning. This implies adopting approaches to teaching where the students are not only listening but actively participating in the lesson. I also believe that mistakes and feedback are necessary for growth so I allow them in my classroom and I give feedback at the end of a learner's performance. I also give room for my students to give their feedback at the end of each lesson.
