I was a teaching assistant in the University of Ghana Legon. I used to teach code to master student. Even when I came here for my masters since I was a bit ahead of my mates I decided to take time to guide them through programming concepts.
My way of teaching is adjusting to what your interests are and making breaking concepts in to smaller concepts that's easy to digest one at a time. And after a lot of practice and quizzing, you'll see how these concepts apply in real life scenarios.
Over time I've realized that practice is the most important thing. So although I take my time to teach I focus on encouraging my students to practice more. It's not an easy thing, sometimes all people need is someone to be with them during that journey. Reminding them what they did wrong. And over time pointing to them what they're doing right, what's unique to them and making them appreciate their unique way of thinking.
I decided to take teaching more seriously because I've practically been doing it my whole life. Even at home I'm teaching my parents how to install stuff and teaching my mates how to use softwares and OBS.
My secret is I read a lot of documentation. That's where all the stuff is. However, I'm disciplined and obsessed enough to do that more than the average person. So I try and help people build this habit whiles I coach them.
That's it. Really simple, but very hard to do alone.
Kevin is a fantastic teacher, patient, kind, and encouraging. He makes every type of class enjoyable and engaging. I highly recommend learning with him!
