Inspired by the Reggio Emilia education system (which is based on community ties), my learning method would be to incorporate a child's approach to learning and Parental awareness into each lesson, providing a summary of what the student has learned, their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles every month. Specifically, I will use this 10-step process:
Step 1: Understand the Textbook the child utilises at school before we meet
Step 2: Have the child take a baseline assessment based on the textbook
Step 3: Talk to parents about the child's strengths and weaknesses
Step 4: Talk to the child about their strengths and weaknesses
Step 5: Identify their exam technique misses through the baseline assessment
Step 6: Ask what type of learner the child is through the VARK Questionnaire
Step 7: Explain to the parent how the child could learn each math concept and SUM MUTT
Step 8: Have the child do textbook homework every week, which the parent will supervise
Step 9: Help the child with wrong answers and school homework during lessons
Step 10: Create a summary report of what the student has learned over the 4 lessons every month
The VARK Questionnaire will help identify what kind of learning the child prefers, divided into 4 types: visual, auditory, reading, and kinesthetic. Based on this, the type of notes that I, as the tutor, will hand to the parent will differ (recording the lessons, visual notes, or collaborative whiteboards through Canva.
The summary report will include strengths and weaknesses in both math concepts and techniques. Specific textbook homework that the tutor will give is based on using practice to reduce concept weaknesses, and the parent will be encouraged to utilise SUM MUTT during these 10-question homeworks.
