I have a first class degree in Film and an A* for English Literature at A-level. I thoroughly enjoyed essay construction and learning to utilise the English language to convey my critical perspectives. love reading and I always have - that is the basis of becoming 'good' at English in any respect and will aid you in your learning. My sessions will be very participation based -- asking questions and being an active participant in your own learning is guaranteed to help you retain information.
Sessions will usually follow this rough structure:
- Short check-in with student about past week, what they've learnt in school and any extracurriculars.
- Learning objectives to give students a set plan of what we set out to achieve/work on by the end of the session.
- Model the steps to be taken by students to reach the desired learning objective.
- Use exemplars to help demonstrate.
- Take any clarifying questions. Although questions are encourage throughout the session unless explicitly stated otherwise.
- In some cases, give time for a guided/semi-independent segment for students to produce work based on the example given.
- Purposeful-independent-practice - students will have ample time to practice the skill of the session until they feel confident independently.
- Debrief - students can share work and we can assess strengths and opportunities to improve.
- Send off - students should leave with an instilled confidence in a new skill and food for thought on how to keep it top of mind and integrate it in their work towards the larger goal.
