I don't think anything can be learned at a meaningful level if it doesn't start with personal connection, curiosity and questions. I love to foster curiosity and interest within my lessons. I believe learning should be learner centered, through inquiry based learning. Inquiry can have a significant impact on growth mindset as it encourages us to approach problems with curiosity and a desire to learn. When we engage in inquiry, we are asking questions, seeking out information, and exploring different perspectives. This process can lead to new insights, deeper understanding, and the development of new skills.
When we adopt a growth mindset, we realize that our abilities can be developed through hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. Inquiry is a powerful tool for promoting this kind of mindset because it encourages us to approach challenges with a sense of curiosity and a desire to learn.
I have taught for 18 years and the more I learn myself about education, the more I love my job. In the last several years of education I have come to realize how much my students need to understand their own brains and the idea of a growth mindset. What they believe about their own limitations and strengths will hinder or increase their success.
