I have worked as a qualified secondary school maths teacher in Birmingham UK for the last 18 years; and for 10 of these years I have also been Head of Maths. I achieved grade A* in GCSE maths in 2000, and achieved grade A in A-Level maths in 2002 (scoring 595/600). I qualified as a maths teacher of 11-18 year olds in 2008 and have taught continuously in two Birmingham Secondary Schools since then. I am highly experienced and competent at teaching KS3 and GCSE maths, and have experience of teaching A-Level maths.
My lessons are focused on mathematical conceptual understanding and ensuring that new skills can be applied in problem solving and real-life situations. I assess pupils' prior learning quickly to tailor each lesson to the individual needs of my pupils. I focus on progress and embedding new skills so they can be applied in GCSE exam style problems. I track progress and identify areas for further study, focussing on topics that are most likely to appear in exams. Using my deep understanding of GCSE exams and mark allocation I ensure my pupils understand how to attain each mark in a question.
Building positive professional teacher-student relationships is key for any teacher. I am enthusiastic and friendly whilst maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
As a mainstream secondary school teacher I have considerable experience of teaching children with SEND and additional needs. I learn the needs of the individual and make adaptations to ensure the pupil can make the most progress possible.
I am available to do online tutoring on Wednesdays from 9am-3pm. I look forward to helping your child achieve their potential.
