Hi, I'm Kate. I'm a qualified and experienced English language teacher from the UK and I've been preparing students for the IELTS test since 2008.
As a former IELTS writing and speaking examiner for the British Council and IDP, my main area of expertise is IELTS preparation, particularly writing and speaking. As a former examiner, I fully understsnd the IELTS band descriptors and what is required to reach high band scores. Having taught IELTS exam preparation for the major test preparation centres, including the British Council and IDP, as well as for international universities, I also understand the best ways to help you maximise your scores.
In my time as an English language teacher, I have taught in various countries including China, Vietnam, Ukraine and Spain. I've worked with students from all over the world, so I understand the specific issues that you face and how to help you improve them. I hold a postgraduate diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (DipTESOL) from Trinity College, London, as well as a UK Phd.
My online lessons are delivered using the Zoom platform and are based on your specific needs. The first step is to do a full mock IELTS test, to identify your strengths and weaknesses. We then create a plan to help you improve to reach your goal. Depending on your needs, we can just work on speaking and/or writing, or I can add lessons to help you understand the techniques for the reading and listening tests as well.
For IELTS Academic Writing Task 1, we look at how to analyse graphs and charts to identify the main features and organise them logically and clearly. Looking at my model answers, you learn the relevant vocabulary and grammar for the various task types.
For IELTS General Task 1, I will show you how to write both formal and informal letters to meet the IELTS requirements, and show you the common reasons why you are missing scoring a band 7.0 or
higher.
For IELTS writing task 2, we look at questions to identify the requirements, find main points to address the task and learn how to develop these points logically and clearly. By looking at my model answers, you will learn ways to structure your essays and use appropriate language to explain your ideas properly.
After all writing lessons, you will have IELTS writing tasks to complete, which I will assess according to the IELTS band descriptors and give you extensive feedback on.
In speaking lessons, we will look at each of the three parts of the IELTS speaking test. I will help you understand what the examiner is listening for when they are assessing you, and how to structure your answers and show your language range. We will discuss many common topics for IELTS speaking, you will do IELTS speaking question practice and get feedback on how to improve.
Lessons can be delivered 1-1 or in a small group if you have friends or family with the same goals. I am currently on a European timezone and run classes from Monday to Friday.
I look forward to hearing from you. Let's see how we can work together to help you achieve your dreams.
