Karla Mielgo

Hello everyone!

I am Karla, a Fine Artist and Art & Design teacher! I have been into art since I can remember ( I wanted to be an artist since I was 5 years old!) I have studied art and design in the UK ( GCSE and A-level) and Fine Art in Spain, Italy (Florence and Bologna ) and the UK ( Bristol).

I have also worked as a nursery teacher from with a focus on EYFS: Expressive Arts and Design, before starting my School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT).

I like my lessons to be engaging and focused on nurturing creativity and technical skills in art and design. I combine structured teaching with hands-on practice, encouraging students to explore different media such as drawing, painting, and digital art.

Each lesson starts with a brief introduction to concepts or techniques, followed by practical activities where students apply what they’ve learned. I include demonstrations, visual examples, and open discussions about artists and art movements to inspire and deepen understanding.

I adapt my teaching style to each student’s skill level and interests, whether they are beginners or advanced learners. With a strong academic background (Art Degree, Master’s, and PGCE) and years of personal experience, I would like to help students build confidence, develop their own style, and achieve their creative goals ( Especially if you are building a portfolio for university!)

Lessons also include constructive feedback and reflection to support continuous improvement. I aim to create a positive, supportive environment where students feel motivated to experiment, make mistakes, and grow as artists.
