I’ve been teaching for 4 years now and pride myself on the ability to make students feel confident, and comfortable within my lessons. I have a natural ability to get students on side, regardless of their dislike / struggle within my subject.
My teaching style revolves mostly around exam technique and assessment objectives necessary to succeed within the specification. I don’t simply present, I get students to apply their knowledge to scenarios and exam questions, use mark schemes to help them understand where they have picked up / lost marks, which makes them quicker to self correct. All sessions will begin with a reflection task from the prior sessions content, to ensure this is understood before moving on with new content, and putting this new content into practice for success in the exam.
I have a fantastic set of results behind me and I am proud of how well my students perform particularly on the Research Methods section of the specification (traditionally a student area of weakness), as well as essay writing skills and AO3 technique.
I adapt my resources quickly according to the needs of the student and what they find tricky, or what they haven’t understood so well to ensure that cognitive overload doesn’t occur. Whenever content needs revisiting / re-teaching, this will be dealt with. I do expect my tutees to complete work outside of my sessions to show me how they are progressing. I will mark this within a weeks turnaround, to give effective feedback and fix any misconceptions quickly.
