I’m very keen on tailoring my methods to each individual student and their unique ways of learning. All types of resources will be used, from videos to written assignments. However what remains the same is making sure every student is engaged is what is being taught. I shape my lessons around what that particular pupil has difficulty with and set homework based on that. At the same time, making sure that what they have previously learnt is not forgotten is just as important. Hence why active recall sessions are important to me as a tutor.

The goal is to stimulate the student’s mind and not kill it so I always instill in my pupils to have a manageable work-life balance. Sometimes, we place too much importance on the grade however I believe that effort, passion, drive, discipline is just as crucial as these are the keys to long term success and build character in individuals.

I, once was on the other side. I had a tutor during year 9 and 10, I remember that what made me want to attend the lessons wasn’t work itself but how the work was presented. I refuse to just give a child a piece of paper with questions without exhausting other methods, such as interactive discussions, videos and illustrations. This is why I have a 35-25 rule. Where 35 minutes of the lesson is spent on making sure the principles and concepts are understood and how they should be applied and the other 25 spent on just exam practice because practice makes perfect.
