I have had 3 years experience in tutoring, first starting as doing it for a family friend and then progressing into my own business. However my students all went on to achieve the grades they needed. My methods include a small test at the start of our lesson in an introduction session in order to see what areas are needed to work on. From then on I use learning outcomes and the specification of the subject to tailor my lessons. This is to ensure that the right information is being taught in preparation for their exams. I also utilise exam style questions to test knowledge at the end of the session. More towards exam season, I use exam papers for us to work through to get them prepared for the real thing. If there are particular questions that a student is stuck on, I will always ask that the student sends me this in advance in order to give me enough time to present the best explanation. Sometimes on the spot this can be a bit tricky and I wouldn't want to confuse the question further. I am also available outside of the lesson space so that students can come to me with something they're worried about mid week. This means that the student won't have to wait for our lesson to convey their worries for a particular subject. I feel this way of teaching has been successful in the past but am more than happy to change things to help others :)
