As a tutor, I will always set out a baseline assessment to gauge where the student would be in terms of skill level, from there I look to strengthen weaknesses and maintain high quality consistency in already existing strengths. Sessions would usually contain work together where we brainstorm ideas regarding the question at hand; how to approach seeing certain questions; techniques to reading; techniques to answering questions; and modelling answers within the session. Post-session usually would consist of homework that can range from 20-40 minutes depending on the task, to prove that they have solidified their learning through out the session and to show that they have retained information from prior sessions too.

My chosen method of teaching is very personal towards the student themself, but I revolve around the philosophy of the student teaching, where they can explain concepts and their methodical thinking to prove their solidified understanding. As well as introspecting their thought process, where it allows me to see how they are approaching questions.

I typically like students to master their skills in quality first, then progressing to working in more stricter time limits, as it will show both myself and the student that they are capable of producing top quality work, rather than rushing work that would be of lesser quality. It is essential to me that students understand and grasp the concepts firmly, whether that is through the use of analogy or through the use of detailed explanation. I believe the best way of proving a good understanding of a topic would be where the student can apply theories and techniques through different examples and be able to explain it in their own words.

I have been tutoring 2 students last year ( ) 11+ and a GCSE Maths student of which had achieved a 7 (Previously on a 4). And also currently teaching a student GCSE English Language who came from a foreign country with English being their second language, who had started on a grade 3 now working at a mid-high grade 6 level.
