When I work with students, I start by getting to know them as individuals. I ask about their interests and hobbies, and try to find ways to connect math concepts to their personal experiences. For example, if a student is interested in sports, I might use statistics to analyze their favorite team's performance. Or if a student is interested in music, I might use rhythm and timing to explain fractions and decimals.
