We will use the first lesson to get to know each other and for me to better understand your ability level and aims for the sessions. It will be an ease into future classes and dispel traditional student-teacher dynamics – I want students to be as comfortable as possible so that they feel confident enough to ask any and all questions they may have. Parents are more than welcome to join for part of this lesson!
After the first class, lessons will start with a few warm-up questions to recap the previous session and we will go through any homework there might have been. Afterwards, I will then introduce the main topic of the lesson and we will spend the majority of the time attempting practice questions. Every lesson is very active – I try to talk as little as possible so that you can talk as much as possible! I will get you to explain your thinking process aloud and will regularly ask questions designed to test your understanding, so I know that your knowledge base is solid and growing (and not just recognising patterns). We will use a mixture of textbook and past paper questions so that you become accustomed to the exam style.
For each class, be prepared to work hard, ask questions, attempt all questions (even if you get them wrong) and to leave the lesson more knowledgeable than at the start!
