Humans are not born with an innate ability to do maths. Unless a person is doing cutting edge research, everything they know on the subject has been taught to them by someone else in an understandable way. So, if you are struggling, then there is nothing wrong with you. In my experience, what is often lacking is a mentor that instils some form of eagerness to learn by making the content relevant and understandable. Luckily, maths/physics is relevant in virtually every sphere of human endeavour and in our lessons I will do my best to make you aware of this, which I hope will make the content relevant. Making the content understandable is difficult (if it were easy then you would likely not need an external tutor). A key insight is that not everyone learns in the same way, which is why teaching large groups of students is tricky (most teachers or lecturers do not augment the course content to suit every learning type). Thankfully, it is much easier in 1-to-1 tutoring to tailor the lessons to the student's learning style, which is precisely what I will aim to do in our sessions. Adapting the lessons to your style will almost certainly have a significant positive impact on your understanding (remember it is the teacher's fault and not your brain's fault if something is not understandable). This pragmatic, student-lead approach I have honed over the years has proven to be very effective and I hope to continue that success with you.
