My approach is supportive and personalised. I believe that each young person has their individual needs and learning style. The greatest success is found when a teacher can listen to those needs and adapt accordingly.
I work with young people at their pace and support them with the specific content they are struggling with. Whether that means general help across the subject or with specific concepts, I am highly flexible and can create material that meets any need.
Lessons with me are relaxed and supportive. I start with a refresh of the previous session and a warm-up activity to determine how confident my student is with a topic before getting into the main content. I use a range of teaching material to keep things fresh and interesting, including practical, hands-on activities where possible. I make sure to end each session with a summary exercise to check understanding and highlight any topics to continue with in the next session.
I am a strong believer in the Socratic method of teaching, which involves using my strong subject knowledge to guide the student to the answer through challenging and interesting questions. I don't believe in simply giving young people the answer or teaching to the test. I can give students both the foundational knowledge and the skills and confidence to apply this knowledge in different settings.
