Joanne Bae is a cellist currently studying at the Royal College of Music, where she is a recipient of the Robey Scholarship and studies Gemma Rosefield and, previously, with Alexander Boyarsky. She previously studied at The Yehudi Menuhin School, where she received guidance from Una Cho, Guy Johnston, Bartholomew Lafollette, Indira Grier, and Matthijs Broesma, as well as chamber music coaching from Ioan Davies, Ashley Wass, and Elliot Perks.
Joanne has performed extensively as a soloist across the UK and Europe, appearing in venues including the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and Geoam Art Hall. She has performed the Dvorák Cello Concerto with the Royal Tunbridge Wells Orchestra and regularly gives solo recitals in countries including France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and South Korea.
An active chamber musician, Joanne has performed in a wide range of ensembles including string quartets, piano trios and quintets, and string octets, with appearances at venues such as the Menuhin Hall, King’s Place London, and JCC Art Centre, Seoul. She has taken part in masterclasses with musicians including Sasha Sitkovetsky, Ashley Wass, and Andreas Fröhlich, and has performed at the Wimbledon Music Festival in 2022 and 2024.
Joanne has extensive orchestral experience, having led the cello section of the Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra in performances of major symphonic repertoire, including works by Mahler, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, and Mendelssohn. She has recorded with Orchid Classics and worked with conductors such as Otis Enokido-Lineham, Malcolm Singer, Oscar Colomina i Bosch, and Maxim Rysanov.
She has participated in numerous international festivals and academies, including Colluvio Chamber Academy and Europe Tour, Festival Academy Budapest, Rutesheim Cello Akademie, and Verão Clássico, and has performed in masterclasses with distinguished cellists such as Zlatomir Fung, Franz Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, Leonid Gorokhov, Marc Coppey, and Giovanni Gnocchi.
