I am basically student focused and relationship grounded/driven. I approach the instructional process as being a partnership between tutor and student. It will be the student who must ultimately set the tenor and the tempo of the instructional process. Having tutored special education needs students in the past, I found that this model works well from a comprehension and retention perspective. In essence, I will become the facilitator, cheer leader, mentor, role model and equal partner in the instructional process. I will make sure that the instructional material has been internalized and fully comprehended and retained before proceeding to the next phase or step of instruction. Additionally, I am approachable, patient, low key, non judgmental and culturally competent. At the end of the day, tutoring is all about providing a service to the student to make sure that his/her requirements and/or needs have been met. In summary, learning should and must be fun as well intellectually challenging. The acquisition of additional knowledge ultimately will translate into a gain in personal self confidence and self worth. So, I wish you much success in all of your academic pursuits.
