Jessica Tukpe

I am a friendly, patient and enthusiastic Maths tutor currently studying for a Master’s degree in General Engineering at the University of Sheffield, specialising in Systems and Control. My degree involves a high level of mathematics, problem-solving and logical thinking, and I enjoy helping students understand topics that they may initially find difficult or intimidating.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs, confidence level and preferred way of learning. At the beginning, I identify the topics the student is comfortable with and any areas where they need additional support. I then break difficult concepts down into smaller, manageable steps and explain them clearly, using examples and visual methods where helpful. I encourage students to ask questions freely, as I want them to feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.

During lessons, I combine clear explanations with guided examples, interactive questions and independent practice. Rather than simply giving students the answer, I help them understand the reasoning behind each step so that they can apply the same method confidently to different questions. I also check their understanding throughout the lesson and revisit topics when necessary.

For younger students, I aim to make Maths enjoyable through engaging activities, relatable examples and plenty of encouragement. For students working towards assessments, I can help strengthen their subject knowledge, improve their problem-solving skills and practise answering questions accurately.

My main goal is to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel motivated, listened to and proud of their progress. I celebrate improvements, build lessons at a suitable pace and adapt my teaching whenever something is not clicking. I want every student to leave each lesson feeling more confident and capable than when they started.
