I like to format the lesson to fit the student. Learning should be fun and engaging and to do this it must tap into the student's interests! Of course that will come with time as we get to know each other so before that I aim to format my lessons in a way that allows student's to feel confident in not only their answers but asking question. To create a lesson where getting something wrong is not something to be afraid of.

They will follow the basic format:
Starter - either related to previous topics we have covered to keep practice up or a simple way to introduce the new topic and gage how much the student already knows.

Main Task - the main task will be the big chunk of the lesson and will go through the topic and cover our learning intentions (what we aim to cover that lesson) and success criteria (how we aim to achieve our learning intentions). The success criteria will be co-created with myself and the student to engage what skills the student thinks they need to utilise to complete the task. If there is anything lacking in the success criteria I will fill it in and go through it with the student. We will then move onto the main activity which will vary depending on student and topic. This will be done collaboratively between me and student. However if we are completing a topic it will be more like a summative assessment of their understanding of the topic to ensure there are no gaps in understanding.

Summary - It will be something short and sweet to help me gage what I need to adjust for extra lessons. It will either be a quick game covering the topic we had just covered to highlight gaps in the student's understanding. Or just general feedback from the student in a self reflective manner on what they think we need to work on next time.

I aim to create independent and self-reflective learners who aren't afraid to make mistakes as they will understand that that is how they grow.
