Jay Omar

Hi, I’m Jay. I am a current student and I am interested in teaching what I know. I am a patient and supportive person, who has an infatuation with teaching. I acquired my GCSEs in 2019, my IB Diploma in 2021 and I am currently a Mathematics undergraduate student. My knowledge and experience is best suited to teaching Mathematics at a GCSE level, with the majority of my tutoring experience being with struggling students. This means that if a student doesn't understand a concept, I am reassuring and patient with them, and unwilling to unnecessarily pressure them during what is supposed to be a teaching moment.

I have experience in tutoring ages 11-16, primarily for GCSE. Subjects I have experience in tutoring are Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Geography. Having taught students of varied ability, I believe students learn best when they are routinely quizzed on small parts of a larger topic, rather than just one comprehensive test. Ideally, working through a problem sheet with a constant back and forth of questions and answers, in order to maintain their and my own understanding of their ability at any given point. I intend to cater my teaching to the student’s individual needs. Group participation on a question is quite important to developing a strong problem solving ability. I am knowledgeable about the different exam boards and the different curriculum for GCSE.

Currently, I engage in more advanced maths, that helps provide my tutoring and explanations of concepts with a heightened understanding, that allows me to convey information regarding difficult topics more accurately. Additionally, I have work experience assisting SEND children.
