Lessons will cover formal elements of art, art theory and history. Tasks and assignments are intended to build drawing, painting, collaging, 3D sculpting skills, illustrations, and possibly photography and animation. Each lesson with require check for knowledge from previous lessons and applying it. Key terminology will be essential for developing knowledge and practicing skills are also essential.
Students will be expected to copy the works of other artists to learn new technical skills, however they will also be asked to create their own work in response to artists they will be studying.
After each completed work, students will be asked to assess how well they have completed their work, commenting on what they have done well and why, and what they could do to improve their work along a clear success criteria. This will not only help students to improve their overall skills, but their critical thinking skills.
Subjects will cover: Portraits, landscapes, still lives, abstract, impressionism, fauvism, expressionism, realism, pop art, surrealism, figurative art, cubism and conceptualism
Artists that may be covered: Picasso, Van Gough, Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, Sol Lewitt, Joseph Kosuth, Keith Haring, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, David Hockney, Banksy, Damien Hirst, Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, William Kendridge, Jenny Saville, Marc Chagall, Matisse, Impressionist artists.
Students are encouraged to practice their skills in their own time, but also to explore their own art and bring other artists they like to be discussed. Developing ideas, research, assessing own work and bringing personal responses will be essential as these are key skills needed for art courses and applying for art courses at university/college.
