Hello, I'm Jamie!
I am a language graduate currently studying a Masters degree in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Nottingham, and I have a deep passion for teaching English to students and young people. Whether it's prose or poetry, I would be happy to help you to achieve the best grade possible in your upcoming GCSE exams. I have an avid interest in Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath, George Orwell, and many other iconic British authors (whom all feature on the curriculum). I have extensive knowledge of the GCSE syllabus and I always strive to make my sessions fun, interactive, and engaging. I will work to your preferred pace, adopting a student-centred approach to ensure that you are responsible for your own learning and progress. I strongly believe in Carl Rogers' concept of person-centred learning, and his work has greatly influenced how I interact with my students, leading to (what I believe to be) more positive, long-lasting outcomes.
I strongly believe in fostering a collaborative, empowering environment in our lessons, as opposed to simply talking 'at' you. In the tutoring relationship, I believe that we are equals. I may possess a certain degree of professional and technical expertise, however, you, the student, has the capability to learn, develop and grow far beyond what I am capable of myself. I hold this belief at the centre of everything I do, and it underpins the entirety of my teaching philosophy.
I look forward to meeting you soon for our first session together!
