It's hard to describe what one of my lessons will be like in general because I prefer to cater my lessons to the student's needs rather than needing the student to adapt their educational needs to my preferences.
However, a common theme that runs through my lessons is making maths relatable and useful, rather than just talking about Maths for the sake of Maths. I find that if a student can see the reason to learn something or how it might help them, a mental barrier tends to lift and they are more able to take the knowledge in.
Assessment is always important in lessons so I can keep an eye on progress and also so the student can learn from mistakes and celebrate success.
I place a high emphasis on building confidence in my students, so I work best when my lessons become discussions about the topic where the student may come to realisations on their own throughout the discussion, and that "Eureka!" moment can do so much to build confidence in a student who is struggling.
