James Heseltine

My name is James and I am a maths teacher with more than 3 years of experience teaching maths in the classroom. I have a first class degree in mathematics, and it is my passion to share my wealth of knowledge with others. People generally find maths unapproachable as a subject, which leads to negative associations with learning and doing maths. I want to break down those barriers, and show you that you are much better at maths than you think you are. The more comfortable you are with the subject, you can start to appreciate the true wonder that maths offers to you as a learner.

I like to work through a mixture of demonstration and practice. It is important for you to master the basics before building on that knowledge. I will support you every step of the way, in providing materials and building your understanding in small steps.

While I do not like the term 'homework', I will set you tasks to complete independently. It is important for you to be able to work through the different skills on your own to build confidence and reinforce your learning. We will reflect on these tasks together and highlight areas for development.

It is important to me that lessons be student lead. I want us to focus on topics that are personalised to each individuals needs, and we will work together to identify these areas. I will design specific, scaffolded programs to support you and what you want to learn.
