Hello, I am James. I am a recent physics masters graduate who has a huge passionate for teaching. I like to tailor my lessons to observe how my student learns and adapt my lessons to what keeps it fun but most importantly useful. Lessons usually start with a basic recap of previous lessons content or a small quiz to gauge how much background knowledge the student understands on the new topic being brought up. With the recap questions I like to let the student guide me through the questions giving occasional hints to point them on the right direction if they get stuck. If they are very stuck in the recap then I like to take over slight and guide them through the question and tailor my lesson around patching those mistakes.

After the intro I like to go into introducing or going over the topics keeping it as fun as possible and gauging how the student reacts to the content (Maybe they feel the explanations are too quick or too slow or they are feeling slightly unwell so are struggling to give their 100%) so that I can further adjust to maximize learning. If the session is longer than an hour I like to take a 10 minute break, this allows the student to relax to reenergize them for the next hour and allows me to possibly adjust the lesson plan if need be. After the break more learning would commence.

Towards the end of the session I like to look over some questions. Initially I will guide them through allowing them to see what to pick out from the question to solve it. Then I like to let them take over and have a go at the questions solo with me being able to be there to help if they feel unconfident in their abilities. Towards the end of a large topic I like to switch to full exam style questions showing exactly what needs to be seen and giving them a more challenging time. I will also occasionally use other exam board questions to test really their knowledge when the exam style is not what they are used to. All of this can be adjusted to suit your child's needs so my tutoring only improves as the sessions go on. I hope to hear from you!
