My teaching approach is built around understanding each student as an individual. I begin by identifying my tutee’s strengths and weaknesses, as this helps me tailor lessons in a way that is both effective and manageable. Once this foundation is in place, learning becomes much clearer and more structured. I believe that every maths topic is based on a small number of core ideas, and I focus on making sure these key principles truly make sense, rather than being memorised without understanding.
Moreover, I regularly revisit previously covered topics through short quizzes and practice questions. This helps students maximise their strengths, while steadily improving areas they find more challenging. Also, I encourage students to talk through their thought process, as this builds confidence and helps them develop problem-solving skills that are essential for exams.
My lessons are designed to be friendly, supportive, and engaging, as I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as this is an important part of learning. At the same time, I set clear boundaries and expectations so that lessons remain focused and productive, allowing us to make the most of our time together.
Teaching has genuinely been an enjoyable experience for me, and I have helped over 15 students reach the grades they want. Many of these students started out feeling unsure or lacking confidence in maths, but through consistent support and structured practice, they were able to make noticeable progress. My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to help them feel more confident and positive about maths overall, which would make them answer questions they have never seen before under all topics.
