I have direct experience both as a student and as an educator within the British system. I completed IGCSEs and A-Levels myself and subsequently spent four years providing full-time, one-to-one home education using the Cambridge British curriculum as the principal framework, taking a student from age 7 through the equivalent of Year 7. I was responsible for curriculum planning, teaching, assessment and progress monitoring across mathematics, science, English, history and geography.
I would therefore be comfortable planning a student's progression through KS3 and towards a broad range of IGCSEs, while identifying the point at which specialist subject teachers and examination-specific preparation should be introduced.
American System
I do not have direct classroom teaching experience within a US K-12 school system, and I would not want to overstate this. My undergraduate education was completed in the United States, where I also worked as an academic mathematics tutor, and my postgraduate and university teaching experience was in Canada.
I also have extensive experience designing technology-supported learning pathways and using diagnostic assessment and performance data through my EdTech work. I would begin by becoming thoroughly familiar with the specific online school's curriculum, grading system, assessments and expectations, then build a structured academic program around it to ensure strong results while identifying and addressing any gaps.
International / IB
I have substantial experience working and teaching across international environments, but I am not an IB specialist and have not delivered the IB Diploma directly. My strength lies in designing individualized academic programs, coordinating different educational requirements and planning progression over several years.
I would aim to ensure that the student's immediate American program fits within a coherent longer-term pathway that preserves strong British, IB and US options.
Mathematics: I can teach US middle and high-school mathematics, KS3 and IGCSE Mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and related secondary mathematics. My engineering background and earlier university mathematics tutoring also enable me to teach Pre-Calculus and Calculus where required.
Physics: I can teach general science through middle-school/KS3 and Physics through secondary/A- levels. Physics and applied mathematics are particularly strong areas given my Electrical Engineering background.
Computer Science / Technology: I can teach Computer Science from middle-school/KS3 through secondary level, including programming and computational thinking. I previously taught undergraduate Java Programming and Software Engineering and supervised software projects.
Chemistry and Biology: I am comfortable teaching and supporting these subjects through middle-school/KS3 and IGCSE level.
English, History and Geography: I have taught these subjects within a full general curriculum through the equivalent of Year 7 and am comfortable supporting them through middle-school/KS3, particularly reading, structured writing, research, comprehension and analytical skills. Even though I am an accomplished creative and technical writer, I would not present myself as a specialist IGCSE English or Humanities teacher and would introduce subject specialists as the student approaches examination level.
My particular strengths are Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and analytical/STEM subjects, combined with the breadth and curriculum-planning experience required to oversee the student's education as a whole.
