As a student of English at the University of Oxford, and a private tutor with almost two years of experience, I have grown to appreciate the importance of conversation and active discussion in teaching, especially for a subject like English literature. My lessons, typically an hour long, tend to involve open discussion of a set reading or assignment, be it from school or from myself. I have taught GCSE, A Level, National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher English, with experience in both language and literature. My students perform well academically, and, perhaps more importantly, come out of their lessons with a genuine love for the subject and a desire to continue learning independently.
