About me

Hi! I'm Iona Catherine. I offer bespoke one-on-one music production, violin, songwriting, and composition lessons Online (Zoom) and in South East London.

I am an experienced tutor with 10+ years of hands-on professional and academic music experience. The bespoke and personalised music classes that I offer can benefit students of all levels and ages, whatever your goals and ambitions are.

I work with my students depending on their individual interests, pushing for the best sound and creations in each area with bespoke lesson plans and approaches. I employ plenty of discussion and interesting practical challenges that push the boundaries of what they already know to gain new knowledge that will last a lifetime.

I’ll work with you to provide flexible in-person and/or online one-to-one music lessons to bring you to the level that you want to reach. Whether that’s picking up the violin, getting into music college, taking to the stage, writing your own music, or releasing your own fully-produced songs to the world!

"My 12 year old daughter wanted to learn music production. Being Windows based we went down the Ableton live route (Industry standard). I had no idea about the software at all. We came across Iona whom was "local". Her in depth knowledge of Ableton and her strong music background have been a perfect fit for tuition. My daughter has a weekly 1 hour lesson via zoom and has progressed with basic setup to compiling beats and working towards songs. She has covered midi, instrument selection and use of microphone. Ableton is far more complex than I realised and having 1:1 with Iona I have seen great progress. My daughter looks forward to lessons and most importantly has fun with Iona making music!"

Iona is a very knowledgeable, friendly musician and tutor whose passion for her art shines through. She is very tolerant of all tastes and skill levels and will invest the time to discover what makes her students tick so that they develop in the way most suited to them. Iona is extraordinarily knowledgeable and experienced in an encompassing, holistic area of music from its writing, to its production, to its academic study, completion, distribution, and performance, and I think this end-to-end mastery gives her a keen ability and insight as a teacher into tailoring her knowledge toward any individual's journey into that world, no matter your aims or experience.

Iona is a great tutor. I’m an older student (50+) and I really do appreciate her patience, reassurance and encouragement. Lessons are always fun yet focused on my goals. Our weekly online lessons have been hugely effective and I passed my first Scottish fiddle exam with a distinction. I have no hesitation in recommending Iona. Easy to work with, reliable and a jolly nice person.
