I have always found that there is a good balance between learning to understand the material as well as learning how to structure solutions. I believe it is much easier to learn material in low pressure environments and in a way which provides a sense of accomplishment when understanding new material. I am open to various methods of tutoring, from working through textbooks to working on past papers depending on how you learn best. Especially at the more advanced levels of maths, it becomes increasingly important to understand why certain theorems or ideas are applied and this understanding will make learning much easier in the long run. I believe the best way to learn is to work through past papers or textbook questions, this allows me to figure out which aspects you are stronger at, and which material to focus on to make the most out of each tutoring session. Once we have figured this out, will take the time to structure the next sessions around the content which needs the most attention and therefore be able to best explain any aspects which you find more difficult.
