My lessons are friendly, relaxed and focused on making maths feel less intimidating. I believe that maths is much easier to understand when you can ask questions, make mistakes and work things out without feeling pressured.

I would start by finding out what the student already understands and which areas they find difficult. From there, we can work through topics step by step, using clear explanations and plenty of examples. I like to give students the chance to have a go themselves, rather than simply telling them the answer, and I’ll guide them through anything they find challenging.

I’ll adapt each lesson to the individual student, as everyone learns differently. My year of experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant has taught me the importance of being patient, explaining things in different ways and celebrating progress, even when it’s a small step.

I also want lessons to feel like a two-way conversation, so I’ll encourage students to explain their thinking and ask questions throughout. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, struggling with a particular topic or simply want to feel more confident with maths, we’ll work at a pace that suits you.

Most importantly, I want students to leave each lesson thinking, “I actually understand that now!” rather than wondering where all the numbers came from. I’ll also make sure lessons have a good balance between learning, practising and checking progress, so students can see how far they’ve come and feel proud of their improvement.
