I have achieved 3A* in A-Level biology, chemistry and mathematics. I currently have experience with in-person tutoring GCSEs and A-Level students from year 7 all the way up to year 13. I enjoy tutoring as it has been a keen interest of mine; exploring my student's strengths and weaknesses and using that to help them improve in the exam hall. My style of tutoring has always been to ensure that each and every one of my students understands key topics not just from a textbook viewpoint, but from the basics, helping them build their own knowledge and utilising it effectively.
Each of my lessons are planned according to what my student wants and what their preferences are.
Do they need help with content and understanding it?
This would include going through the content from the basics all the way to complex items. I do this through the use of the whiteboard and notes; breaking down the content into small bits so it's easy for the student to understand and for them to revise it at a later date. Throughout the entire session I will also pick out points that are crucial to their exams, pointing out information that will commonly show up on exams. This ensures that during revision my students know their main points to revise.
Or does my student need help with exam practice?
For this I will personally hand pick exam questions prior to the lesson and we will begin going through it during the lesson. My tactics usually include picking out areas that have not scored marks and exploring why and how they can use that to gain the marks. Often in subjects such as chemistry the overwhelming information at the student's helm makes it difficult for them to approach it and this is a skill I ensure that my students are confident with before walking into the exam hall.
