Given I have recently completed my A-Levels with high grades in mathematics and chemistry, I have fresh knowledge of the subjects as well as experience with successful revision. During the lockdown, I taught myself part of my A-Level courses from home. This forced me to revise effectively and find efficient learning methods, therefore improving my teaching skills as I had to teach myself A-Level subjects.
I am capable across all subjects, achieving eleven A* grades at GCSE, including everything from Further Maths and the separate sciences to Spanish and History. While Mathematics and Chemistry are my strongest subjects due to studying them at A-Level, I can also offer useful advice in essay-based subjects, particularly in writing effective essays. I completed an EPQ, an independent research project resulting in a 5000 word essay, for which I achieved an A grade.
I find that a friendly, relaxed atmosphere is best for learning; I want the student to feel comfortable enough to ask questions and make mistakes that they can learn from. I aim to be encouraging and kind, while also maintaining high expectations within the student’s own limits.
In my previous teaching experience, I have found success in explaining a concept then working through problems alongside the student until they have a firm grasp on the concept and can complete questions alone with ease. I like to revisit the topic later on to keep it fresh in the student’s mind. I have also found this to be useful in my own revision.
