When introducing a new topic, it is important to me to check if the student has any previous knowledge or if there is an area in particular that they struggle with. I would then make a plan to work through the necessary content making sure they are understanding. Then checking their understanding after going through the content and seeing if they feel more confident with it.
I like to encourage my students to feel very open and free to discuss what they struggle with and where they might need help. I think it is also very important that they feel confident in their abilities as from personal experience I believe this can make a massive difference.
I have been tutoring since my first year at University, my undergraduate is in Psychology and I am currently studying my Masters in Psychology too. I have tutored mainly psychology and maths as I am very passionate about these subjects and I try and bring that through in my lesson plans, in hopes to make them enjoyable for the students too.
I have tutored over 30 different students and I have enjoyed being able to help them gain the grades that they wanted to. It is a truly rewarding job especially knowing that pupils become much more confident in their abilities.
I am an online tutor, and as part of making my pupils as comfortable as possible I don’t require them to have their cameras on, though it is still important that they are engaged in the lesson.
