Whilst mentoring at Chichester College, I had one student who particularly struggled with academics due to her lack of organisation and chronic procrastination. As a result, I went above and beyond for her when preparing for our lessons. I would often do more than what was required of me: for example, I would make our lessons engaging and entertaining and would explore numerous memorisation techniques with her, to see which worked most effectively. I would spend hours preparing interactive materials, notes and PowerPoints that I would email to her after our lessons. Additionally, I would dedicate hours of my time to meeting with her and reassuring her about her exams. I wanted to ensure that she not only understood the content, but also memorised and analysed it.

Overall, I provided her with long-term coping strategies that allowed her to succeed in her academics and grow emotionally and professionally. Consoling my student about her poor grades (at the onset) was something I really enjoyed because we formed a close friendship. As a result of my teaching, she became more organised in her other A-Levels and went from an E to C’s and B’s.

The format for my teaching will vary from individual-to-individual. Assessing students' behaviour and the way in which they work best will determine future lessons.

I am currently studying Law at a Russell-group university and am in the process of becoming a lawyer.
