Each lesson runs 45 to 60 minutes, one-on-one, either in person or online. We start with a 5-minute check-in. You’ll tell me what felt good, what felt hard, and what you want to work on that week. Then we move into a 10-minute warm-up focused on hands, feet, and posture. The middle 30 minutes is the main block where we work on grooves, rudiments, or songs. We finish with 5 minutes reviewing what you learned and setting a clear goal for the week. I record short video clips of exercises and send them to you after class so you know exactly what to practice.
I don’t teach from a single textbook. We mix three things every week: technique, groove, and music.
Technique covers grip, stick control, limb independence, and rudiments. We keep it practical—no endless drills that don’t connect to actual playing.
Groove is where we lock in. We’ll work on rock, funk, Afrobeat, gospel, and hip-hop patterns, depending on what you like. I break each groove down into pieces, then put it back together at a tempo you can control.
Music is why we’re here. From week 2 or 3, you’ll start playing along to songs you choose. I’ll give you the structure, highlight the drum parts, and show you how to adapt them to your level.
You’ll play most of the time, not just listen. I use a call-and-response method: I play a phrase, you play it back. We use a metronome, backing tracks, and sometimes play duets so you feel how it is to lock in with another musician.
I’ve been playing drums for over 10 years and teaching for 6. I’ve performed live with bands in church, studio sessions, and local gigs across Lagos. That real-world experience shapes how I teach—you’ll learn what actually works on stage and in a rehearsal room, not just what looks good on paper. I’ve taught beginners who’d never touched sticks and intermediate players preparing for auditions.
Whether you want to play for fun, join a band, or build a professional skill, I’ll meet you at your level and push you forward. Bring your sticks, your curiosity, and a song you love. Let’s get to work.
