I am currently a final year psychology university student but I have worked intensely in secondary schools, especially those with SEND needs such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and SEMH needs, however I ran small and 1-2-1 Maths sessions with those who don't necessarily have needs and could just do with some extra guidance and confidence. My sessions are student orientated, I believe no two students learn exactly the same so I will try to work with how work bests for each individual. I provide patience, fun (yes Maths can be fun), and an environment where it's perfectly ok to get it wrong. I work online and decide what the next session will focus on at the end, to give myself and the student the best opportunity to prepare questions and resources.
I achieved an A at A-level Maths and A* at GCSE Maths (higher), however I understand everyone is on their own Maths journey and really try to focus on breaking down complex topics into more simple and structured steps to build confidence up and check understanding throughout. I believe practice really is a key to getting there, but I understand repeating the same tasks over and over can be tedious so the topic practice may range from a short quiz, to a practice exam question, to the student explaining a question to me, or making their own questions and solving them. I also believe it's important that I can explain different topics in multiple different ways- everyone finds different methods work for them.
I believe confidence is key, so I work to build that just as much as it is just as important as grades to me!
