Gemma Fletcher

My name is Gemma, welcome to my page! I am a First-Class Music graduate from the University of Birmingham, where I specialised in flute performance. I have extensive professional performance experience, covering jazz, classical, rock and folk genres. I also have plenty of teaching experience, such as working as a tutor at Birmingham's B:Music's Summer School and Primary School Woodwind Teaching with Services for Education, as well as freelance work. I offer friendly and supportive lessons tailored to each student’s individual goals and experience level, and always welcome new students!

The format of each lesson will vary depending on your experience and any specific goals you have. We will work on technique such as tone, breathing, articulation and sight-reading, as well as exploring repertoire. As well as having completed exams myself, I have experience in teaching students working towards ABRSM and Trinity exams; preparing for exams or performances, I can provide guidance on performance confidence and etiquette.

My main aim is to create an encouraging environment where you can develop your skills while keeping a genuine love for your instrument; enjoyment is the most important aspect of improvement! I will challenge you to push beyond your comfort zone so you can discover what you're capable of.

Whether you are starting the flute from scratch, returning to it after a break, or looking to play professionally, I will work with you to set achievable goals and help you become a confident, independent musician. I would love to help you reach your full potential!
